Moth Control & Pantry Pest Treatment

Moth control for Midlands homes. Pantry moths breed in stored food and clothes moths feed on natural fibres,
so the first thing we do is establish which one you actually have.

MOTH CONTROL THAT TARGETS THE SOURCE

The two are completely different problems with completely different fixes. Pantry moths come home in a package of flour, cereal, rice, pet food or birdseed, and develop on your shelf.

Clothes moths are the quieter problem. The larvae feed on wool, silk, cashmere and other natural fibres in stored clothing, and by the time you notice the damage the source has usually been active for months.

HOW MOTH CONTROL WORKS

Establish which moth it is, find the source, remove or treat it, and set up storage that stops it recurring.

1

Inspect & Identify

We identify the species and search for the source, in stored food for pantry moths or stored textiles for clothes moths.

2

Build the Right Plan

The two need different handling, so the plan follows the identification rather than the other way round.

3

Treat with Purpose

Treatment directed at the source and harborage, kept away from food surfaces where pantry moths are involved.

4

Prevent & Follow Up

Storage and rotation guidance, which for both species is most of the long term answer.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT MOTHS

Quick answers on telling the two apart, where the source usually hides, and whether mothballs are worth using.

Pantry moths

Indian meal moths have a distinctive two-tone wing, pale near the head and coppery at the tip. The larvae leave silky webbing in and around infested food.

Clothes moths

Small, plain and avoid light. The larvae feed on wool, silk and cashmere in stored clothing, and the damage appears as irregular holes.

Which do I have?

Where you find them tells you. Flying around the kitchen points to pantry moths. In closets and stored clothing points to clothes moths.

Do mothballs work?

Only in a sealed container at sufficient concentration, which a closet is not. Loose mothballs in a wardrobe mostly produce the smell without the effect.

Moth Control for South Carolina Homes

Indian meal moths are the most common pantry pest by a wide margin. You usually notice the adults flying in the kitchen before you find the source, and the larvae crawl surprising distances to pupate, leaving cocoons on ceilings and in cabinet corners far from the food.

Clothes moths are less common but more expensive. Webbing and casemaking clothes moths feed on keratin in wool, silk, cashmere and feathers. Stored, undisturbed and dark is exactly what they want, which is why the damage shows up in the back of a closet.

Help Keep Moths Out

Storage is most of the answer for both species.

  • Store flour, grain, cereal, rice, pet food and birdseed in airtight containers.
  • Buy pantry quantities you will use within a few months and rotate stock.
  • Freeze bulk grains for four to seven days after purchase to kill eggs.
  • Clean natural fibre garments before storing them, since soiling attracts clothes moths.
  • Store wool and silk in sealed containers rather than open closets.
  • Vacuum closet floors, corners and under furniture regularly.
  • Inspect decorative dried items like wreaths and Indian corn.

For pantry moths the source is often outside the kitchen entirely: pet food, birdseed or a rarely used spice.

Appointment length depends on the treatment and property. Our team will explain what to expect, provide an arrival window, and call on the way.

Modern uses low-toxicity, professional products and follows service-specific safety requirements. Some treatments require people or pets to stay out of treated areas until the materials are dry or for a specified period.
