The most aggressive of the group. They nest underground, in wall voids and dense shrubs, and colonies can hold thousands by late summer.
Open umbrella-shaped combs under eaves, in porch ceilings, grills and mailboxes. Less aggressive, but they defend the nest at close range.
They bore round half-inch holes into eaves, fascia and railings, then reuse and extend the same galleries each year. The damage accumulates.
